Cupcake Bere Yapımı – How to Knit the Mademoiselle Cupcake Beret

Geçtiğimiz yıl bu berelerin örgü ören anneler camiasında ne kadar meşhur olduğunu, anneniz bu gizli cemiyetin üyesi ise fark etmişsinizdir. Bana – Fiona ve Marianna ile aynı anda - siyahı, pembesi, kahverengisi ve krem rengi geldiğinde bu berenin eli şiş tutan anneler arasında geçen yılların spiral atkı-fularları kadar ciddi bir epidemiye dönüştüğünü korkuyla algıladık. Ve fakat duruma müdahale etmek için artık çok geç olmuştu. Portmantolarda parmak örgüsüyle örülen atkılar ve kenarı ponponlu yün saç bantlarından artan yer de bu bereler tarafından ele geçirilmişti.

Yalnız önceki yıllardaki yoldaşlarından farklı olarak bu berelerin formunda bir aşinalık vardı. İnsanı çağrışıma zorlayan bir taraf, bir manipüle edilebilirlik, çok tanıdık bir başka nesneye aşırı benzerlik… Bu berelerin formunda bir cupcake’lik vardı!

If your mom is a member of the “Secret Knitters Society” you know that some patterns make it to the top of the knitters’ winter lists and all daughters receive multiple colors of the same garment in the same season. Mothers do have the power to force a certain knitted object into high street fashion. If you have a mom who has a connection with this secret cult, you must be aware of these berets or even own a few. We realized that this was the next epidemic in the said age group when Fiona, Marianna and I received four different colors of the same beanie in the same week. Yet it was too late to stop the moms, since their creations had already invaded the little space left of finger knitted scarves and pompom hair bands in our wardrobes.

However, these knitted hats, as opposed to their predecessors, had a rather unique form. A curious twist that forced you into association, some kind of openness to manipulation, a striking resemblance to a very familiar object… These berets had a cupcake-ness of form!

Bere için:

Bıdıklıklar için:   Örgü genişliği 25 cm, örgü uzunluğu 50 cm,

Yetişkinler için: Örgü genişliği 30 cm, örgü uzunluğu 60-65 cm

     Yani;
·   Resimlerde gördüğünüz topik insanı Asya’nın saç çizgisinin etrafını ölçtük, 50 cm çıktı. Bu demektir ki örgümüzün uzunluğu (genişliği değil, uzunluğu) 50 cm'e ulaşana kadar öreceğiz.

·   İlmekleri de, 25 cm genişliğe ulaşana kadar atacağız. Benim 3 numara şişlerimle bu 50 ilmek demekti.

Bu 50 ilmeğin 20’si pembe yünden, cupcake’in kek bölümünü; 30’u beyaz yünden cupcake’in kremasını oluşturacak şekilde ters örülüyor. Krema bölümünde de beyaz yünü çift ip olarak kullanıyorsunuz ki daha sonra puf puf dursun. İki rengin birleşme yerlerinde, yünü resimdeki gibi çaprazlıyorsunuz. Kullanmayacağınız rengi arka tarafa atıp bir sonraki sıra için hazırlayabilirsiniz ama kesinlikle kesmeyin!

İpin Ucu: Kullanacağınız yünü üstten, bitirdiğiniz bölümün yününü alttan geçirip ilk bir-iki ilmeği çok sıkı örerseniz renkler birbirinden çok daha net ayrılır ; )

Bu şekilde uzunluk 50 cm –veya bereyi kullanacak süper şanslı kişinin başının etrafı uzunluğunda– olana kadar ters (haraşo) örün. Kesme işlemine daima cupcake’in kek kısmından başlayın. Bu bölümü normal kesin, kremaya geldiğinizde yapacağınız şu: iki ilmeği bir alarak kesin, bir ilmek bırakın – bayağı bildiğiniz bırakın, şişten çıkarıp başıboş bırakın, kaçsın- sağ şişteki tek ilmeği sola geçirip bir kez daha kesin, sonra yine bir tane bırakın, sonra aynı şekilde bir tane daha kesin… Örgünün sonuna kadar birer ilmek bırakıp birer keserek devam edin ve kesme işlemini bitirin. Şimdi bıraktığınız o birer ilmekleri örgü boyunca çekiştire çekiştire sökün! Sökün sökün, korkmayın! Örgünüz bu noktada o kadar sıkı olmalı ki “kaçan” ilmekleri aşağıya kadar yürütmek ciddi çaba gerektirmeli : )

Tüm krema bölümündeki ilmekleri söktükten sonra bu bölüm pofidik bir görünüm alacak. Bere’yi tamamlamak için resimde gösterildiği şekilde başı ve sonunu dikip birleştirin, uzun kenarlardan beyaz olanı da sıkıca büzüştürün. Şekerlemelerinizi renkli taşlarınızı az miktarda sıcak silikon ile kremanın üstüne “serpiştirin”. Üst taraftaki büzülen bölümün üstüne yapımı burada tarif edilen keçe çileklerden de bir tane kondurdunuz mu tamamdır!

For the Beret:
·   Yarn in your desired colors (one ball for each color is more than enough)
·   Knitting needles a size smaller than what is written on the yarn label
·   Rhinestones in multiple colors
·   Hot glue gun and a very small amount of glue
·   Needle

For the Strawberry:
·   Thin felt or fleece in pink and green
·   Batting
·   Gold colored thread
·   Needle

Munchkin size:                                  width: 10”, length: 20”

Adult size:                                         width: 12”, length: 23-25”

Which means;
·       We measured around the hairline of the super-cute little mademoiselle seen in the photos, otherwise known as Asya, which turned out to be 20”. This means that we’re supposed to purl until the length of our knitted fabric (not the width, the length!) is 20”.

·       We’ll cast on until we reach a width of 10”. With my needles of size 11, this meant 50 knots.

20 of these 50 knots should be in pink, standing in for the cake part of the cupcake; and 30 of them should be in white, standing in for the whipped cream. And the whipped cream part should be knitted by doubling the thread, so that it becomes all puffy and “whipped”. To change from one color to the other as you go, cross the different colored threads.

Secret key: While crossing, the thread(s) you are about to use should be on top and the thread you are done using should be under it. If you knit the first two knots tightly the color seperation would be much more professional looking.

Purl until you reach the length of 20” –or whatever size the head of the super-lucky future user of the Mademoiselle Cupcake Beret is. Start binding off from the cake side with the pink yarn and bind off as you normally would until the end of the pink side. Alternate (cross) yarns when you reach the white part, this is where I need to make an emphasis paragraph : )

The trick to the puffy cupcake shape lies in the whipped cream part: take two stitches together and knit, leave the next stitch –seriously, slide it off the needle, let it go-. Put the stitch on the right needle back on the left and knit two together with the next remaining stitch (the one after the stitch you just let slide off). Then let the next one slide off the needle, put the one stitch on your right needle back on the left, take two together and knit, let the next one slide… Bind off like this until the end of the stitches, leaving every other stitch off. Now unravel the stitches you didn’t knit until the end of the knitted fabric. The knit should be so taut that you should have a hard time pulling at its ends : )

After unraveling all stitches this part should be all puffy. Sew the ends of the knitted fabric as shown in the picture and then sew along the long white side tightly in a gathering-ruffling motion. Sprinkle your candy colored rhinestones over the whipped cream with hot glue and put a strawberry –click for the tutorial- over the top, and voila, you’ve got yourself a delicious French beret!

Color A (CA): White (double yarn)

Color B (CB): Pink

Row 1: CO30 with CA, alt, co20 with CB

Row 2: p20 with CB, alt, p30 with CA

Row 3: p30 with CA, alt, p20 with CB

Rep rows 2-3 83 more times (or until you reach your desired head size)

Row 170: BO with CB, alt, continue with CA: *ssk1, slide 1 stitch off the needle, slip the stitch on the right needle back on the left*, repeat between ** until you reach the end of the row, finish as usual.

And may I remind you that this is my first time attempting to use the knitting abbreviations - which I think must be obvious- so cut me some slack, will you?
